Yes..I love the olde wooden sewing hoops. I just can't seem to have enough of them! Everytime I see one or a dozen at an antique shop...I just have to have them! I love the look of them, I love the feel of the worn and weathered wood and I love the way they hold your fabric snug as a bug while stitching. I especially take a liking to the hoops that have fabric wound about them to keep it nice and tight..those are the hoops that were used dearly and often. As they say..."they just don't make them like they used to"....how true! One modern convenience that I am ever so grateful, is the light bulb! Oh heavens...how did young girls and women stitch in the candlelight? We had been without power since early Sunday morning and I can't even imagine trying to stitch by candlelight much less trying to stay warm while sewing! The sampler shown in the photo was stitched in 1857. I purchased it a couple of years ago at an antique shop in Williamston MI.
I will take a better picture of it at a later day....it is truly a time-worn treasure.
Have a wonderful evening! I am off to prepare dinner and then I am going to enjoy my evening stitching up my new sampler pattern from Beehive Needleworks!!

Thank you for your kind words. Beth...You just haven't found the right "fit" in an old wooden hoop. You will love it when you do!
Sherry..actually one of the hoops in the grouping is an old metal one that someone painted mustard a long time ago..it has the little spring to keep it tight.
Judy...I am so glad you found my blog. I am stitching away on the sampler and have the perfect frame to fit it. I will most definitely
post a picture when completed.

I have a passion too for old hoops but have just a few along with a few metal hoops. I agree totally with using lightbulbs. I have tried stitching by lantern light when we had no electricity it was certainly difficult.
Happy New Year!!!!

Bobbie,
Your blog is a delight! I love what you come up with to share. I have two old wooden hoops. It's neat how we stitchers are all drawn to the same loved things of olde. Can't wait to see your newest sampler and that antique one is wonderful!

Bobbie, I love old wooden hoops, too! Well...just about any old thing related to sewing...stitching... and textiles!
I have my Grandmother's small oval that see wrapped in light blue cotton...her old embroidery scissors...and knitting spool...just some of the treasures that I cherish. She died two years before I was born...but I've always felt a deep connection to her.
Thanks for letting me reminisce!
~Laurie
